How Churches Should Respond to Scandal - Julie Roys | The Roys Report
The Remnant Radio welcomes Julie Roys of The Roys Report (@JulieRoysReport). In this episode, we’ll explore the systemic nature of abuse in churches and the proper ways for churches to handle scandals when they arise.
We’ll discuss the importance of adhering to Ephesians 5:11: "Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them," and how this scripture should guide our response to misconduct within the church. Julie will share insights on the dangers of honor culture in churches and why it’s crucial to have whistleblower policies and procedures in place to break this cycle.
We’ll also examine why third-party investigations are essential in cases of abuse and scandal. Julie will explain why church elders, staff, or relatives cannot be considered independent investigators due to potential conflicts of interest and biases. She’ll provide practical steps for ensuring transparency and accountability, emphasizing that true reform and restoration can only happen when churches are willing to expose and address wrongdoing without favoritism or cover-ups.
Finally, we'll address what practices and procedures can be established in churches to protect members from abuse. How can a church set itself up so that holiness and integrity are at the root of all activities?
Don’t miss this crucial conversation on how we can protect the integrity of the church and ensure a safe environment for all its members.
Julie Roys is founder and investigative reporter for The Roys Report - a Christian media outlet dedicated to reporting the unvarnished truth within the Christian community to facilitate reform and restoration. You can read The Roys Report here: julieroys.com/

    She claims she has a right to know how much the pastor makes. Does the pastor have a right to know how much she makes? That bit seemed like an entitlement attitude

    Hebrews 6 Eliot Lugo-Hernandez September 27, 2023 The issue with Hebrews 6:4-6, is the same issue with Romans 11, 1 Corinthians, 1 Timothy 4:1, 2 Peter 2:1, and the Book of Jude. First, we must look at the Bible with fresh eyes because we tend to look at it from our denominational or doctrinal views. Allow me to start with Nehemiah 8:7 & 8, which states in the NASB, “Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites explained the Law to the people while the people remained in their place. They read from the book, from the Law of God, translating to give the sense so that they understood the reading.” Here we see explaining the Law and translating it to give it sense to understand it. In most of our churches, we do not learn how to read and study the Bible; we learn what to believe. We start as a Christian sponge and evolve into a Christian filter through which we filter anything we read from the Bible and everything we hear from other Christians. As Bible students, we tend to bring into the Holy Scriptures our personal bias, pre-conceived ideas, or beliefs, and our educational, religious, and cultural backgrounds. These are some of the reasons to make sure we take into consideration the usage of biblical hermeneutics. Bible scholar and author Gordon Fee states, “Without necessarily intending to, we bring our theological heritage, our church traditions, our cultural norms, or our existential concerns to the [Bible] as we read [it].” (How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth, page 72). Luke 10:26 reads, “And He said to him, ‘What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?’” As serious students of the Bible, we must read what is written and find out what it means when the Bible says what it says. Most churches advocate for doctrines from the perspective of their own denominational or religious background, but the important issue here is whether such doctrines go along or against the consensus of the Bible. “The Bible contains some things so simple that even a child can understand them and some things so complex that the brightest minds will never understand them.” ~ Max Sanders Remembering that a Text Out of its Context is a Pretext, let us look at Philippians 1:6 out of context and then in context. 1. Philippians 1:6 (NASB) reads, “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work among you will complete it by the day of Christ Jesus.” • Out of context and read in isolation, this verse implies that God will finish what He started in the lives of the Christians in Philippi no matter whether they cooperate with God or not, willingly or not. 2. Philippians 1:3-6 (NASB) reads, “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now. For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work among you will complete it by the day of Christ Jesus.” • Paul (along with Timothy) is addressing this letter to the saints in Christ Jesus in the City of Philippi, including the overseers and deacons. Verse 2 is a salutation. Verses 3, 4, & 5 offer the foundation of Paul’s conviction found in verse 6. Paul remembers the Philippians in his prayers because of their “participation in the gospel from the first day until” the present time. Paul is confident or convicted that, due to the faithfulness of the Philippian Church to God, God will complete the good work He started among them until Christ comes back. First Timothy 4:1 reads in three versions… • New King James Version ~ “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.” • New Living Translation ~ “Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.” • New American Standard Bible ~ “But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons.” Paul is writing to Timothy, who is Paul’s true son in the faith. This means that Timothy is a Christian. Now, let us look at the phrases “depart from the faith”, “turn away from the true faith”, and “fall away from the faith.” They all mean the same thing. I cannot depart from the faith if I am not in the faith. Obviously, it is safe to say that the faith to which Paul refers is the faith in Jesus Christ. Notice that it does not say or mention from the Church, from the Denomination, or from the Organization but from the faith. This verse is a warning to Christians, and so is Matthew 24: 4 & 5. Before tackling Hebrews 6, I want to address a warning found in Hebrews 3:12 (NASB) which reads, “Take care, brothers and sisters, that there will not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.” Most aircraft have the CAWS, (Caution, Advisory, And Warning System). This verse is neither a Caution or an Advisory, but a Warning; a Warning with eternal, however reversible, consequences if one does not regard and obey the Warning. Now concerning Hebrews 6, which is the main scripture passage here, we must approach it with caution because this chapter, as well as the entire book, is addressed to Christians, not to unbelievers. When taking into consideration verses 1-3 in Hebrews 6, we must remember once more that the writer is addressing Christians. Verses 4-6 have been interpreted by some to mean that “those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come”, are not or were not Christians at all but that they went to church and had an experience without a conversion. These people to which the author of the Book of Hebrews refers are not common Christians, if there is such a thing. They were enlightened, they tasted, and they partook. Verse 6 states that it is impossible “to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God and put Him to shame.” To renew is to re-establish, to repeat, or to resume. Notice the word “again” mentioned twice. These people experienced repentance and would be crucifying Jesus for themselves, again, if they fall away and God have them renewed. Hebrews Chapter 6 is both a warning and an encouragement; a warning against being sluggish and an encouragement through diligence and perseverance. Chapter 10 of Hebrews is also filled with a warning about sinning willfully, cheapening God’s grace. The issue with Hebrews 6 & 10, and other warning Scripture verses, is not so much that people can lose their salvation but that God Himself may deny them entrance to His Kingdom because they were deceived and stayed deceived. The warning for deception of which Jesus Christ spoke to His disciples in Matthew 24 is not to be taken lightly since deception can lead one to abandoning the faith temporarily or permanently. Christians can be deceived; the danger comes to realization if we remain deceived and unwilling to repent. However, we must also factor in God’s faithfulness, grace, and mercy toward Christians and non-Christians. Stay spiritually hungry and thirsty.

    Pastors’ salaries? Boards? This is pagan Christianity. The whole thing is a super structure and it’s a complete disaster! Gateway Church (Robert Morris) has hired a ‘professional ‘ bunch of lawyers who are there to protect the reputation of Gateway. Robert Morris was taken under the wing of James Robison ONE MONTH after the crime and was part of his preaching circuit. These men are self serving. BTW - James MacDonald, who was fired in 2019, got $1.2 million and a vacant parcel of property adjacent to the church’s Crystal Lake Campus. He also was allowed to run his Walk in the Word ministry independently. Then you wonder why there is NO justice

    Having watched the American justice system..... not sure how much control we want to give them over the church. But.... maybe it's time to make a government group to oversee churches. If God puts our government leaders in power, maybe we should have a department of politically appointed government officials to make sure churches and leadership is meeting standards set by the department. Those standards could then be codified and applied by law enforcement. I am not sure I would want to participate in that, but it would definitely expose all of these abuses.

    Unfortunately until protestants renounce SS they will always be divided. SS is their principle of disunity. There is no ounce of unity in that dogma. Church infallibility is the only way to unity. SS was completely absent for 1500yrs hence why catholics didn't break into 10k denominations.

  • @MrJayb76
    @MrJayb76 13 годин тому

    You shouldn't recieve catholic communion bc you don't believe in transubstantiation. That's just logical. Common sense. No protestant will allow me in their church if I deny SS or SF. Francis knows that for 1500yrs the eucharist united all catholics into one body. It continues to do so. The theology and teachings behind the eucharist is undeniable for 1500yrs.

    26:56 You are absolutely right about Todd Bentley. The first video i watched of his in 2008, he said the same angel that started William Branham's ministry started mine; For starters angels dont start ministries, the Holy Spirit does.... Secondly William Branham was way off.... Derek Prince who was on stage with him said that he moved in the demonic... (he says this in his book Protection against deception). I got Todd Bentleys theology off of his web site for the few days it was there (he took it down as he got criticism). He was into Serpent Seed theology (same as Branham) and he had some theologian justifying why it was ok to pray to angels using The Angel of the Lord from the OT (who has to be the preincarnate Jesus as people worshipped Him) and the angel that stirred the waters at the pool in the NT (only the kjv says angel). Today you can see John Andrew Collins (born into the Branham cult, left aged 37 about 12 years ago) historical research on Branham, the layers of deception are breath taking, he had different personas and different theologies (taught the trinity to some and the opposite to others), he was even a preacher to the Klu Klux Klan.

    You can still be transported today but God only does things where there is a reason to do them, he doesnt do them for the sake of magic if you will... A pastor in a church I used to attend got transported... him and his wife were living by faith and they had gone to a meeting and didnt have enough money to get home, they expected someone to give them some money (prompted by the Lord) and no-one did and they had a principle of not asking... Anyway as they started walking the 10 miles home they suddenly found themselves outside their front door.... I believe this guy (David Lamb) because when i was in debt to the tune of £1000 he had a prophecy that God would clear my debt. I was in a relatively poor church, I thought where is that going to come from... Sure enough a couple of months later, a friend of mine's mother passed away and left him some money, he gave me a £1000... David Lamb has written a book entitled 'Faith Man' if anyone is interested...

    "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God..." So when you guys put God's word under scrutiny, by saying that some passages were not in the Original text, passages that have been widely accepted for centuries, which do not contradict the word of God or His character, you put God's Word in question.

    Once saved you can no longer lose your salvation because it's not based on what you continue "to do" (works) but on what Christ has done and His FREE GIFT offer of salvation. Salvation is a gift, not a reward. No matter what a saved person does, they cannot lose their salvation GIVEN, not rewarded by God.

    Funny you mentioned Mercy Culture, there are definitely some things off there. So many red flags. We looked into joining Mercy Culture, visited a few times because our friends invited us, noticed quickly people there seem to worship their pastor and church like a cult. The pastor seems kind of prideful in his sermons and on his social media posts and if you dare to say something that puts him in a bad light all his followers come at you with so much anger… it’s weird. I do think this church would be classified as NAR, I also think they are about the seven mountain mandate although they don’t say that, you can see it. I was concerned when I found out they had many ties with RM and Gateway and recently learned the elder named in Cindy’s letter of knowing her age is there right now as an apostolic elder at Mercy Culture. I would keep an eye on this church and their housed ministries.
